We Know

Alcohol Causes Cancer

Campaign Background

The goal of this campaign is to make everyone aware of the link between regular alcohol consumption and cancer. Y2Y wants to make the public aware that alcohol consumption increases one's risk of developing cancer. Alcohol consumption is the third leading preventable cause of cancer. In January of 2025 the Office of the Surgeon General published their finding that regular alcohol consumption increases one’s likelihood of 7 different types of cancer. These cancer’s include mouth, esophagus, throat, voice box, liver, colon, rectum, and breast (in woman). For woman the risk of breast cancer increased by 10% for woman who drank one drink daily, compared to those women who do not consume alcohol. Y2Y wants to educate the public and provide warning where the industry fails to do so.

Project Details

The We Know campaign is all about raising awareness about the consequences of alcohol consumption and its direct link to cancer. Youth 2 Youth hopes to inform the public of the dangers and potential consequences of alcohol consumption. Like all of our campaigns, the We Know campaign included a variety of mutually- supporting components. Such as those seen here on this page.

Our Kickoff Event

Dover Youth to Youth launched the We Know Campaign by holding an informational demonstration in downtown Dover, NH with palm cards (see photo), posters, visuals, chants, and conversations with pedestrians. The We Know Campaign was kicked off during our weeklong summer Advocacy Camp that teaches advocacy and activism skills to new members interested in participating in Youth 2 Youth.

You can view the students presenting the press release on facebook.

Media

To support this campaign Youth 2 Youth has created a new Sticker Shock sticker. These stickers will be placed on alcohol packaging in local stores in hopes of raising awareness of the topic and providing education to the public and those consuming alcohol.
